In 1965 Chevrolet decided to join the pony car wars to rival Ford's Mustang. The result was a project numbered XP-836 code named Panther. The resulting product was a massively capable and great looking passenger coupe called the Camaro. When automotive journalists asked production managers, "What is a Camaro?" The managers simply responded, "It's a small viscious animal that eats Mustangs." That was enough to keep a rivalry alive for over 50 years.
